Eden’s head spun. “But you love football!”
“I do, and I can watch myself get older and slower and less relevant or I can try something new.”
Her mind boomeranged back to Willow kite-surfing or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. “Something new? Like what?”
“I dunno. I was thinking I could be the personal trainer of the most talented DJ in the world.”
Eden’s skin tightened all over her body. “Me? You mean… me?”
“Of course, pretty girl.”
“But... I don’t… What do you mean? What would that even look like?”
He laughed. “I guess I’ll come on your tour and be like, your assistant or something. Take care of you. Make sure you eat veggies and don’t drink so much caffeine, you enter the fifth dimension.”
Eden couldn’t speak. Her brain had frozen like a faulty movie.
Willow’s face fell. “It’s okay. There’s no pressure. I know it’s a lot and you don’t have to—”
Eden flung herself back into his arms. “Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!”
“Really?”
She gripped his shirt collar and shook him. “Yes!”
Willow swung her upward, lifting her toward the ceiling. “You mean it?”
She pinched his cheeks in her hands and kissed him so hard their teeth banged together. “Sorry!”
“Fuck it,” he growled, then kissed her properly. Slowly. And as their lips moved in unison, she saw it all; Willow sleeping in her bed, making her jog and do push-ups and eat apples. He’d hug her all the time, walk with his arm around her waist, listen when she needed to talk, and keep people away when she was tired…
She pulled away from him, suddenly terrified. “Are you sure you want to give up everything to follow me on a mid-sized EDM tour?”
He grinned. “Why not? I love partying. I could talk to people all day and I love traveling, even flying. And who knows, maybe I can help Cheryl and Andy with social media stuff. At the very least I can make sure you eat and get some sun every day.”
“What about you being a star? What about your TV career?”
“That’s one of the things I thought about the day after the party.”
“And…?”
Willow’s eyes were soft. “I thought I wanted to be the star of the show, but I think what I’m actually good at is taking care of people. Especially one incredibly talented person.”
Eden looked away, trying not to cry. She knew if she did, it would be a tsunami and wash away all her stage make up.
“Eden Jade?”
“Yes?”
He hoisted her higher. “I’m gonna say something now, so brace yourself.”
Knowing what was coming, Eden did the opposite. She melted.
“I’m in love with you,” he said, confirming all her suspicions. “I know it’s too soon and I should play it cool, but I can’t. I’m in love with you.”
