Kieran gasped. “I take it all back. He’s a prawn.”

Eden stared at them. “What, pray tell, is that?”

“You know… Good body, bad head.”

“They’re called prawns?”

“They’re called ‘good from far and far from good.’” Cheryl stared at the redhead. “But you’re right, the front doesn’t live up to the back.”

Eden glanced at the guy. He had a pretty big nose, and his cheeks were sprayed with freckles, but she wouldn’t call him a prawn or whatever the fuck Kieran had said. He was clean-cut, with mussy hair. The sort of hardy, sunshiny dude who always looked a little out of place at night. Maybe not handsome, but attractive enough in a private schoolboy kind of way.

“You’re both mean,” she declared. “He’s fine. Besides, who needs a hot face?”

Kieran gaped at her. “You have a crush on Francis. The prettiest pretty boy in the world.”

“Yeah, but I’d vibe him even if he was ugly. He’s got that thing.”

“What thing?”

“That thing. Bernie gets it.”

Cheryl nodded. “I do get it. But do you seriously think Prawn Guy is hot?”

“I dunno, but what’s a pretty face and a wimp body gonna do? Give me muscle any day. You can work with muscle.”

“So, you want to hook up with Prawn?”

Eden watched the redhead elbow Derek Hardiman, a huge grin on his face.

He looks happy.

The thought surprised her. Did everyone else look unhappy? Well, Derek Hardiman did. And the girls not getting touched on in Francis’ entourage. But everyone else was just doing what she was doing—glancing around, trying to see what was up. Still, the redhead seemed genuinely excited to be in a green room. Though if he was a footballer, it couldn’t possibly be his first time…

“George?” Cheryl pressed. “Do you?”

Did she? The redhead was the polar opposite of Francis. Francis looked like he’d take her apart and put her back together in shapes she hadn’t known she could fit into. The redhead was all sunshine and rainbows. Without knowing him, Eden was sure he’d try to make her laugh. He’d definitely try to make her come. And wasn’t that what she wanted? A walk down high school memory lane? He lifted his beer and his biceps turned into a freckly boulder. She imagined gripping it and her insides twittered. “I could hook up with him.”

“Then it shall be done.”

Eden grabbed Cheryl’s wrist. “Please be cool. He might not be into me.”

“Yeah, that’s a real possibility.”

“It is!”

Both Cheryl and Kieran rolled their eyes. Eden knew why. She was pretty. Pretty in the way everyone was supposed to want to be; skinny, blonde, good skin. But that didn’t mean she was beyond rejection. Look at Francis. Look at—

Do not think about him.
