HarperCollins has welcomed Twelve rapturously and I am ridiculously grateful to have teams on both sides of the Atlantic who have worked so hard to make the book what it is. In the UK, Tina Mories is a PR wizard, absolutely full of bright ideas. Huge thanks also to: Alex Cowan and Bethany Maher in Marketing; Val Brathwaite, Matt Kelly, Elorine Grant, and Hannah Marshall in Design; Samantha Stewart in Editorial and Carla Alonzi in Rights. In the US, enormous thanks to: Lauren Levite and Aubrey Churchward in Publicity; Nellie Kurtzman, Robert Imfield, and Emma Meyer in Marketing; Clare Vaughn in Editorial; Mark Rifkin in Production; and Corina Lupp in Design. Extra special thanks to Corina for finding Sophie.
Thanks also to Jane Tait for her copyediting skills and to all the proofreaders in the UK and US—your eagle eyes have prevented many mistakes from making it onto the printed page.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the friends and family who plowed their way through early drafts of Twelve’s story and gave me feedback that improved it: Jo, Claire, Sarah, Rich, Cecile, Miguel, Adele, Dad, and Fiacra. You’re all Hunter-esque heroes and I’m so lucky to have you.
Special thanks to Iona and Cillian, the two younger readers who volunteered feedback—your thoughts were hugely important and helpful. Huge thanks also to Miriam Tobin for her valuable insight and suggestions, to Mary for the glorious writing afternoons in NYC, and to Phoebe for inspiring me to write again.
And last but by no means least, thank you to my parents, Avril and Max, and to my sister, Adele, for a lifetime of love, support and library visits.
About the Author
AISLING FOWLER wishes that she had grown up in a magical, mountainous kingdom but was actually raised in Surrey on a diet of books and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After earning a BS in biology and working first as a support worker and then a nurse, the idea for Fireborn came to her as she moved back and forth between London and the US.
Now based in Hackney, when she is not reading or writing Aisling loves cooking and plotting adventures (for herself as well as her fictional characters).
