“I met him a few times when Piper started dating him,” Viv said. “He was very handsy, and all I could think was how could Piper tie her life to a man who had such a ridiculous nickname and who felt free to grope anyone who came within reach. Gross.”
“It is ridiculous and he is gross,” Andre said. He looked as if the thought cheered him immensely.
“He’s an absolute wastrel,” Viv said. “I have no idea what she sees in him.”
“His parents’ social connections, no doubt,” Harry said. He reached out and grabbed my hand, pulling me close. “I’m betting theirs is not a love match.”
Then he kissed me. I felt my face go warm, knowing that my friends were likely grinning and rolling their eyes as one.
When he pulled back and my brain started to function again, I looked at Andre and said, “Don’t you worry. I’ll have your back all weekend. I won’t let him anywhere near you on the off chance he remembers who you are.”
Andre smiled. “Thanks, Scarlett.”
“And if you need backup, you can call me and Harrison,” Nick said. “We can be there in a little over an hour.”
“Speaking of which, we’d better be off,” Harry said. “I have to drop off the three of you and then get back here in time to walk Bella, or who knows what havoc she will wreak on our flat.”
“You can always leave her with me,” Fee said. “I’m staying in Scarlett’s old room for the weekend so I’m here all day every day.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Harrison said.
“Are you sure you don’t mind tending the shop alone?” Viv asked. “Saturday’s market can be a lot.”
“Oh, I won’t be alone,” Fee said. She tossed her head flirtatiously. “I have a friend from millinery school helping me out.”
“Wonderful,” I said. “If she likes it, maybe we can consider hiring her. We need the help.”
“He might be looking for more regular income,” Fee said.
We all turned to stare at her in surprise.
“Fiona Felton, are you holding out on us?” Nick cried. “Do you have a beau?”
“Maybe.” She giggled.
“I feel less and less bad about leaving you alone,” Viv said.
“Same,” I agreed. I gave Fee a quick hug and a wink. “Have fun.”
With some mild cursing, Harry managed to fit my bags and Viv’s and Andre’s into the boot, using all of his body weight to shut it. Then he hustled us into the car. Because neither Viv nor I owned a car and Andre’s was too small, Harry was driving us out to Sussex and then would pick us up the day after the wedding. Yes, the man had the title of best fiancé in the entire world locked down.
