“Two men in their prime, both dying so quickly like that?” he asked. “Yeah, I think he was murdered, too.”
A chill rippled through me. “Well, at least we know it wasn’t the curse, because Quentin wasn’t about to marry anyone.”
“That is not as reassuring as you’d think,” Andre said.
Viv opened the door and we filed into the room, which, despite its opulence, I was beginning to loathe.
Chapter 16
“You don’t think the detective is going to demand that we stay here even longer while they investigate what happened to Quentin, do you?” Viv asked. She sank onto the divan, looking as if she just couldn’t bear it.
“I don’t know,” Harry said. “But I’d doubt it. Everyone here has a life they have to get back to tomorrow.”
I nodded. “I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to go home so badly in my life.”
“All right, you two, since we have time to kill, what is the plan for your wedding?” Viv asked. “I know everything was shut down during the pandemic and you had to postpone it, but don’t you think it’s time you committed to a date, a color scheme, a venue or anything?”
Harry and I looked at each other. It was true. We were supposed to get married ages ago but then the world went sideways and we decided to wait since my family was in the United States and they couldn’t come. I’d had big plans and dreams and hopes for my wedding but now after this weekend, I realized I didn’t care what our wedding looked like.
“So long as I’m Mrs. Harry Wentworth and you’re Mr. Scarlett Parker at the end of the day, I do not care about the wedding at all,” I said.
Harry grinned at me. “I feel exactly the same.”
Viv jumped up from her seat and said, “Yes! Set a date right now.”
I would have protested but Andre chimed in. “She’s right. Do it. Do it right now.”
Harry took out his phone and opened the calendar app. “Do you think we could pull this off in six months?”
“Absolutely,” I said. Obviously, feeling way overconfident. “Let’s get married in January of next year.”
“Done,” Harry said. He pulled me close and kissed me.
As always whenever Harry was in my orbit, I lost track of everything that was going on around me. When we broke apart, Andre had his camera out and Viv was smiling and nodding at the display screen.
She tapped the screen. “That’s your save-the-date picture.”
Andre turned the display to us. I gasped. It looked like something out of a movie. Harry and I were staring into each other’s eyes, centered perfectly in the arched castle window with the rolling green hills in the background.
“Perfect,” Harry said.
“Meant to be,” I agreed.
