To Author Mentor Match, which kickstarted my career and introduced me to so many wonderful people. Thank you so much to Allison Dillon, Alex Higgins, TJ Duckworth, Joanne Weaver, and Brittney Singleton for reading this book—and for trusting me with your work in return.
To the online communities that raised me and taught me to write. A special shout-out to Stephanie Ash-Perry and Alex Perry. Once, we were a bunch of confused teens on a constellation of forums. Look at us now!
To all the authors who’ve reached back and the independent booksellers—especially Cristina, Laura, Tori, Cody, and all the folks at Kepler’s—who’ve been early champions of this book. I appreciate all of you so, so much!
Lastly, to Masashi Kishimoto. We will never meet, but thank you for creating a world that I found refuge in. I’ve dedicated over a decade of my life to shipping two of your characters who never once spoke to each other, so that says a lot about your work (or me). This one’s for you.
