- About the Author
“Santo thinks Cammi is knocked up,” Gio says as he passes me another chair.
“What? Shit. No.” A million thoughts run through my mind. “Is that even safe? With her heart?”
“Do I look like a fucking doctor?” Gio shakes his head. “I’m sure it’s fine.”
“Yeah, but until that kid is out of his wife, our baby brother is going to be intolerable,” I tell him. I wasn’t around for Daisy’s pregnancy. I wish like fuck I could undo things and change that.
Vin was there for her, though. He was the only one there, and from what Daisy says, he was a great support for her. I want to experience my wife being pregnant. I wonder if I can talk her into having another one.
Santo’s car rolls to a stop, and he and Marcel step out. “Pretty fucking morbid place to be meeting, don’t ya think? Was the cemetery unavailable?” Marcel calls out.
“I’ve had some good times in that cemetery,” Santo adds.
“TMI.” I laugh at him. I do not need to hear about how he and Aria “found each other” on his dead fiancée’s grave. His words, not mine.
“Don’t be jealous, bro. It doesn’t suit you,” Santo counters.
Vin’s car pulls up next. He gets out with his phone to his ear. “Okay, call me if you need anything. I love you,” he says before pocketing the device. “What?”
We’re all staring at him. “Nothing,” Gio says at the same time I ask, “Did you knock up Cammi?”
“What?”
“I didn’t say a fucking word.” Santo holds his hands in the air.
“I don’t know what the fuck any of you are talking about,” Vin tells us. He pulls out that little fucking tin he carries around with him and grabs a joint.
I look to Gio. Vin doesn’t usually light up so openly in front of us. I guess today is the exception, because that’s exactly what he does. Gio subtly shakes his head at me. I guess we aren’t going to address it then.
“Fine, don’t tell us. But just so we’re all clear, I’m the kid’s favourite uncle,” I announce.
“Wait… How do you all know about this and I don’t?” Marcel asks. He’s currently waving around a stick of sage like a fucking moron.
“Because you’re never around?” I counter.
“There’s not enough sage in the world for this place,” he grumbles under his breath.
“Sit the fuck down. They’re here,” Gio says. The sound of tyres on gravel has me looking in that direction.
