As for my cybercriminal-turned-cybersecurity expert, I promise that I know nothing about criminal hacking. At least nothing more than I learned by reading several books for this project. And nothing more than I learned from an actual cybersecurity expert when consulting with her about every facet of the story. I have a computer science degree, but it’s too old to be of any use to me other than to help me understand a little technical jargon. I’m sure my security expert was relieved that I could understand at least some of what she shared with me.
But here’s the scary part—I had complete confidence that my expert would shoot down every one of my ideas for hacking crimes. Nope. She informed me that everything I had dreamed up, my hacker could do. I should say can do . . . in the real world. I don’t know about you, but I find that disturbing.
On the video gaming, I’ll be honest—I don’t play games. I’ve never been interested. But my kids love them and seem to own every gaming platform created. So it wasn’t hard for me to gather intelligence about how to include a video game in the story.
Again, thanks for joining me on this last installment of Rocky Mountain Courage. I hope you’re eager to hop on the next ride with me in a brand-new series set in Alaska!
Blessings!

All writers need an extensive support team, or at least this writer needs one. I don’t know what I would do without you, my dear friends and confidantes, really. God brought you into my life—I know he did! How can I ever fully thank you for your continued encouragement? For the times you’ve listened to my long rambling or incessant whining as I labored through yet another novel. Thank you for all the brainstorming sessions and the amazing fresh perspectives you’ve given me. You inspire me to keep writing, to keep answering God’s call no matter how hard—Lisa Harris, Sharon Hinck, Shannon McNear, and Susan Sleeman. Thanks for your brilliant and unique suggestions—Chawna Schoeder, Michele Griep, and everyone in our Minneapolis Critique group, Lynette Eason, Lynn Blackburn, Patricia Bradley, and the BOLO Squad. Wesley Harris for always being quick to answer questions regarding police procedures!
A special note goes to you, Christopher, Rachel, Jonathan, and Andrew Goddard—for inspiring me with your love of video games. And thank you, Patric Gardner (my daughter Rachel’s husband), who helped me untangle and understand video game chat rooms, where I hear people can meet their future spouses (I’m glad you found my Rachel). I wouldn’t be writing or published if my husband, Dan, hadn’t supported and believed in me. Thank you, my love!
