“I’ve heard that before.”

Wham! He struck me in the nose again. Pain shot through my head like a bolt of lightning. I could hardly see but what I could see wasn’t good.

Mo’Lock was fighting with the infant and taking a beating. The damn thing was like a giant murder hornet flying around his head taking swipes, and chunks of flesh with them. The ghoul was trying to slap it away but the baby kept going after his eyes.

I had my own problems.

I was getting my ass kicked by a teenaged vampire.

As I flew around the room, I saw Mo’Lock finally take control and grab the baby. Even I was shocked by what he did. He held the baby and crushed it with his bare hands. The baby squealed. It shrieked, and then it died.

Ellis had paused to watch. Even he was amazed. I took the opportunity to deliver the hardest uppercut I could muster. My fist connected with the vampire’s jaw. It dazed him at best.

But it bought me time.

Mo’Lock delivered a blow so hard I swear I heard the kid’s head crunch. Ellis stumbled and recovered fast but the ghoul was already on him. Mo’Lock tackled the vampire and both of them went flying out the window. I ran across the room and leaned out to look. The two of them were rolling around on the lawn punching at each other.

I wasn’t about to jump and break my legs so I ran as fast as I could downstairs. I was running for the back door when I saw a huge wooden spoon and fork hanging on the wall of the kitchen. I grabbed the fork.

I ran to the sliding glass door and almost ran through it. I could see the fight outside was off the ground and the two were going at it like boxers exchanging brutal blows. I slid the door open and ran into the fray.

“Hold him!” I yelled.

Mo’Lock wrestled the vampire by grabbing him around the neck with his arm and spinning him toward me. I tried to plunge the fork into Ellis’s chest but it was too dull. He kicked me and I fell backward.

I snapped the wooden fork on my knee and went at him again while the ghoul struggled to hold him in place. I leapt to my feet and plunged the jagged, broken wood into the Nosferatu. This time it went in. It went in deep.

The kid’s eyes shot open and turned from black to red. Mo’Lock let him go and he stumbled backward as his body began to flake. He looked right at me with pleading eyes. For a second I saw the boy trapped inside, and then he turned to dust and the broken wooden fork fell to the ground. It was over.

Far in the distance I heard sirens.
