She rubbed the grime from her shoulders, remembering her terror when she heard Ted had a gun and Dan was going to find him. Her strong dependable Dan had gone off and she’d been terrified. She closed her eyes, picturing his gorgeous smile and imagining his arms around her. If anything had happened to him…
Her eyes shot open and Glen Barrett’s name jumped into her head. Dara had mentioned wills and succession plans. Perhaps that had been what Dan wanted to talk to Glen about. Dan and Rowena could be making changes. What with both of them marrying, it made sense that things like wills would need to be rewritten.
Paula felt the worry slide off her shoulders as she stepped out of the shower. That was sure to be it. Wills were important and especially where businesses were at stake. She hesitated as another thought niggled at her. She didn’t have a will and it wasn’t something she’d ever discussed with Dan, so he wouldn’t know if she did or not. Surely he would have included her in any deliberations over that kind of thing.
She needed to talk to him about it but at the moment there never seemed to be time to discuss anything personal. Dan was rarely home long enough to do more than eat and sleep and he wasn’t doing much of that, either. Today had been the longest time they’d spent together in one stretch for ages and, apart from her worry over her doctor’s visit, it had been Ted and Heather who had needed their support.
Paula eased herself onto the bed and took several long deep breaths. Tomorrow she’d go and visit Rowena. Maybe she could glean some information from her. Paula stretched then relaxed as the welcome relief of sleep began to engulf her.

“Sit over here, Paula.” Rowena indicated her lounge, neatly decorated with its lace antimacassars. “Make yourself comfortable. I’m glad you could come this morning. I’ve brought home three outfits and I really need help to make a decision.” Rowena bustled around the lounge, plumping cushions and flicking at imaginary dust. Whenever Paula came into this room it was always perfect. Rowena was a very efficient house keeper. “Are you comfortable there? Would you prefer another chair?”
“I’m fine thanks, Rowena.” Paula had never seen Dan’s aunt so agitated. She was usually calm and in control and here she was in a tizz about what she was going to wear on her wedding day. Not a state Paula would ever have imagined her in.
“Would you like a cup of tea? You look a bit pale. You are taking care of yourself, aren’t you?”
