‘This girl,’ Rob added the photo of Carla Rigg to the board, ‘has been positively identified as Kirk Junker’s daughter, she’s called Daphne. It’s our strongest indication that he’s back in the area, after being told that he moved away some five or six years ago after being jilted by Mary Hales. You might recognise the photo.’ A ripple of excitement travelled around the room. Kelly spoke next.
‘Fred and Sandra O’Reilly have both informed me that Kirk Junker could be described as a sadist, and that he left the area with a wife and Daphne, his daughter.’ Kelly paused and added them to the board. ‘Now, rewind five years, and Kirk wants to run the local Pagan worship group his own way. Yes, you heard it from me first. These photos were highlighted to me by the coroner this morning.’ She used her laptop to link the files to the whiteboard and pointed out what Ted had told her.
‘This is solid evidence of ritual torture and a calling card. Demi, could you give us your interpretation of killers who use calling cards.’
Demi studied the photographs. Kelly hadn’t held back. She’d decided to show them the fire symbol found on Mary’s animals, as well as the triple moon sign found on Mary, as well as on the floor. She also showed them a picture of the missing poster giving Edna Beverley’s contact details.
‘A calling card is a message,’ Demi began with the basics. She moved closer to the board and pointed to various parts of the photos and asked Kelly for details such as the position of the victim.
‘Geographical and anatomical positions. Any of these symbols can be categorised as calling cards. It’s overdone, as if the perpetrator thinks the inquirers might miss something.’
‘Exhibitionist?’ Kelly asked. Demi nodded.
‘Huge ego.’
‘The coroner said the triple moon was tattooed into her chest on Friday night. He tells me from the coagulation of the blood around the ink, that she was possibly alive when it was done,’ Kelly said.
‘We’re talking about a seriously disturbed individual here. I have never come across one case where a murderer so advanced has not been abused as a child and subsequently continued that behaviour,’ Demi added.
