“From what we’ve pulled together, Dr. Marcus doesn’t seem organized enough, and Dr. Steinwood is a bit aloof. Corbett appears to be the most aggressive. He is the marketing guy, after all,” Myra said, expressing her assessment of the men. “And Corbett is in the process of acquiring a Chagall. Wants to show it off to his friends. At least that’s what Annie pried out of Victor.”
“We also believe that Marcus may have some extracurricular drug dealings. A mangy drug-delivery boy has been seen entering and leaving Marcus’s office, and in one of the photos Eileen sent, it looks like there is a residue of white powder on his desk. He also has some dealings with a jeweler. There is a Casoro jewelry safe in his apartment. Eileen was able to get in and took photos.” Charles clicked on the photos, so Myra and Annie could see them.
Annie let out a whistle. “That’s one boatload of diamonds.” She was already dreaming about cracking the safe. Even though Eileen had done so already, Annie needed to dig deeper, so to speak. At least that was what she told herself. Safecracking was always exhilarating, even when it was as easy as cracking this safe would be.
“According to the surveillance from Avery’s group, Marcus seems to be having some financial woes. Fergus was able to get a look at his bank records. Whatever goes in leaves immediately. Apparently, Mrs. Marcus likes to shop, drink, and show off,” Charles conveyed.
“I must say, Avery’s people have done a wonderful job.” Myra wanted Charles to be sure she had forgiven them for pulling Avery off a previous mission. A little reminder wouldn’t hurt.
“Eileen is going to continue to tail Marcus until she can find out what business he’s conducting with the jeweler all the way across town,” Fergus said.
“Excellent. Maybe she’ll have an answer by the time we arrive in London,” Annie added.
“Isabelle and Alexis should be getting back later. We’ll send the jet to Teterboro and give you an ETA. Is Charlotte ready for this?” Fergus asked.
Annie looked over at Charlotte, who was gazing at the spectacular view of Central Park from the living-room area of the suite. “She is so ready. Quite the team player!” She waved at Charlotte across the room.
“I don’t think she has felt this good in a long time.” Myra smiled at her friend.
Charlotte nodded and gave her the thumbs-up sign.
“Any other news from Maggie?” Charles asked Annie.
“She’s giving the paperwork to Nikki, for her and Lizzie to vet. Maybe there is a way out of the situation, particularly if they are doing something illegal. Which they are.”
“Which we are going to fix!” Myra said emphatically.
