Walker pulled his wife into his side with one arm while the other balanced his daughter. “If she is, she might not want the entire world to know, Shortstack.”
“Sorry,” Taylor whispered but then beamed at me. “Are you?”
I couldn’t hold in my laugh. “We are. But it’s really early.”
Taylor squealed, pulling me into a hug. “I’m so happy for you. You’ve earned every bit of this joy.”
Something about the sentiment had tears burning the backs of my eyes. That so many people wanted so desperately for Mason and me to be happy. “Thank you, Tay.”
She released me, wiping under her eyes. “Well, I’m just going to have to drink some champagne for you.”
“I think that’s a great plan.”
Taylor looked up at Walker. “I think we should make another one.”
His eyes widened a fraction as he bounced his daughter in his hold. “This one’s still in diapers.”
She shrugged. “Then what’s one more set?”
Walker leaned into his wife and gave her a slow kiss. “I’ll give you a baby.”
Mason chuckled as we stepped away from the couple lost in their own world. “Tonight might singlehandedly be responsible for a baby boom.”
I linked my fingers with Mason’s, leaning into his side. “I like that idea.”
He pressed a kiss to my temple. “Me, too.”
“Anna,” Kennedy called as she hurried over to me and pulled me into a hug. “Happy almost-wedding day.”
“Thanks, Kenz.” When I pulled back, I studied my friend’s face. She was glowing. “What is it?”
She stepped back into Cain’s hold, grinning up at him. “Should we tell them?”
“Up to you.”
“Tell me, or I won’t give you any champagne,” I argued.
Kennedy beamed. “We’ve got a new foster placement coming next week. Our social worker says she thinks he’ll be eligible for adoption in another month.”
“Kenz.” My throat clogged as I looked at my friend. This was what she’d been waiting for. “I’m so happy for you.” I pulled her into another hug. “Looks like we’re going to be raising kiddos together.”
She jerked, pulling back but holding onto my shoulders. “Are you?”
I nodded.
She bounced up and down. “This is the best day ever.”
I looked back at Mason, who gazed at me tenderly. This man had given me a family I’d never even dared to dream of. We had built a life that was loud and chaotic, warm and loving, and above all, steadfast. I never doubted how Mason felt about me. I always felt safe and cherished. And that life was only growing.
I stepped into his arms. “Thank you.”
He brushed his lips against mine. “For what?”
“Everything.”
