"Where would he keep that sort of information?" asked Natalia.

"Likely in his office," offered Cyric.

"And where is his office?" she asked.

"In the fortress, right beside the Cunar barracks," said Cyric, "but I don't know for sure which one."

"Can you find out?" Athgar asked.

"It wouldn't be difficult," he replied, "but my presence would be noted."

"Then how do we get into his office?" she asked.

"The bigger question," remarked Cyric, "is how we get you two into the fortress?"

"That's easy," said Athgar, "we dress like members of the Church."

"Easier said than done," said Cyric. "You'd still have to get past the guards at the gates."

"Gates? There's more than one?" asked Athgar.

"Three actually," said Cyric, "but we only need to get you past two of them."

"And if we find the evidence," asked Natalia, "how do we get out again?"

"You won't have to," said Cyric. "As long as you have the proof, we merely have to make sure the right person gets it."

"And who is that right person?" asked Natalia.

"Leave that to me," said Cyric. "Now, how good are you at being stealthy?"

"I thought we were going to go in disguise?" asked Athgar.

"You are," said Cyric, "but once you're in his office, you'll have to avoid detection. No brother or sister of the order would be searching through another's belongings."

"I can be quiet," said Athgar, "and Natalia will stay here. After all, it's my problem, not hers."

"No," said Natalia, defiantly, "we're both going."

"That would increase the chance of being discovered," said the Therengian.

"I'm not letting you go alone. If things go wrong, you'll need my help."

"Very well," he agreed, "but I only do so under objection."

"Duly noted," she said.

"Now," Athgar continued, "you said you had an idea about disguises?"

"Yes," said Cyric, "it will be easy to disguise you, Athgar. All you have to do is dress like a Brother of Saint Mathew. It's Natalia that represents the challenge."

"Do we dress her like a man?" asked Athgar.

"No," said Cyric, "we dress her like a Sister of Saint Agnes. The real trick will be obtaining a suitable outfit for her."

"Can't we get a seamstress to sew one up for us?" asked Natalia.

"No, the cloth used for such outfits is only available in one place, and they would not be willing to risk their lucrative contract with the Church by selling it to others," said Cyric.

"Then where do we get one?" asked Natalia. "Surely you're not proposing we steal one?"

"I don't think it'll come to that," offered Cyric. "I believe I might be able to convince someone to lend us one."

A knock at the door interrupted their conversation. Brother Caerwell poked his head inside.

"We have visitors, Brother Cyric," he said. "A group of Cunar knights under a captain."

"What do they want?" asked Cyric.
