This book is dedicated to my wife, Julia. I had just started writing As I Descended when we first met. We spent an hour on our third date talking about how the plot might work and debating which was a better tragedy: Hamlet or Macbeth. Neither of us convinced the other then and we still haven’t, but I’m really, really glad we’ll get to spend the rest of our lives trying. Thank you, Julia, for all of the things.
