Overwhelming gratitude to the team at Tor, who’ve had my back from the moment I signed on: Sanaa Ali-Virani, Libby Collins, Samantha Friedlander, Shreya Gupta, Christine Foltzer, Donna Noetzel, Jessica Katz, Steven Bucsok, Rafal Gibek, Stephanie Sirabian, Megan Barnard, Claire Eddy, Will Hinton, and Devi Pillai. You are an amazing group of passionate people. I am honored beyond words to add my work to such an incredible roster.
Whew.
And finally, to you. Yes, you, the one reading this. You picked this book up and read the words I wrote when there are a million other stories to read, shows to watch, and games to play. Thank you for your time, precious as it is.
One last thing. I listen to music while I write, so I would also like to express my sincerest appreciation to the following albums and the artists who made them:
Age of Winters by The Sword
Sunbather by Deafheaven
End by Explosions in the Sky
Take Care, Take Care, Take Care by Explosions in the Sky
Volume 1 by Magic Sword
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Young Mountain by This Will Destroy You
Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack
D by White Denim
Dopesmoker by Sleep
Go Tell Fire to the Mountain by WU LYF
Inhuman Rampage by DragonForce
De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Ambient 1: Music for Airports by Brian Eno
