As he yanked out the files, he stopped at one labeled Randall Knight. He opened it to reveal a surveillance photo of himself and Lee meeting at Victoria Peak. The sneaky bastard had stalked Knight just as Knight had stalked him after stumbling across him at Wan’s warehouse. Beneath the photo was a detailed log of Knight’s activities in Hong Kong, as well as notes from conversations Cobus had had with Wan about Knight’s plans to help the triad traffic endangered animals for Knight’s own financial gain. The accounts of his criminal conspiracy were meticulous and irrefutable. Cobus had realized Knight was full of shit, and was secretly planning to hang him along with the rest of the criminals.
Knight picked up a trash bin and swept all the documents into it, then removed the plastic liner and wrapped it all into a bundle.
He then rushed out the door with the incriminating evidence tucked under his arm.

CHAPTER 46
THE SINNER
Audrey fled when she heard the sirens. She knew that if she was at the scene of the shooting when the police arrived, she would have a lot of explaining to do. Why was a Hong Kong police officer delivering medical aid to a gunshot victim at the greyhound track? And why was her bullet lodged in his chest? And she knew that if she answered those questions, she would never see her son again.
So she stopped applying pressure to Cobus’s chest wound and slipped off into the darkness, leaving him to die.
A tropical storm began to pour down hard as she walked the two kilometers to the ferry terminal. Left alone with her thoughts, she was overcome with shame and guilt. She shivered uncontrollably as the rain streamed down her hair and seeped through her coat.
Soaked to the bone, Audrey stepped into the punishing light of the terminal. She kept her hands in the pockets of her dark jacket, avoiding the eyes of the tourists lining up for the last ferry home to Hong Kong after a night of gambling and revelry. As she crossed the antiseptic linoleum floor, she saw splotches of pink liquid forming a trail behind her. The water continued to wick down the sleeves of her jacket, mixing with Cobus’s blood contained in the fibers and trickling down to form a damning pool at her feet.
Audrey rushed into the bathroom. She vigorously scrubbed the congealed blood from her trembling hands. The door opened, and an elderly woman dripping with jewelry entered. Audrey froze as the woman crossed to a bathroom stall, oblivious to the bloodstained sink.
