And as always, I wouldn’t be able to live this dream life writing uplifting love stories if it wasn’t for the support of my family. My husband and son are my biggest supporters and cheerleaders and I’d be lost without them. You guys are my world.

CHAPTER ONE

Santa Monica, California

The right script will give you chills. That was how Selena’s movie star stepfather, Mel Hudson, knew when to accept a role. Well, if the goose bumps covering Selena Hudson’s skin were any indication, this was the role she’d been looking for.

When her indie producer friend had first contacted her about the project, she’d been hesitant—Jay was fairly new to Hollywood, an Atlanta film industry transplant with impressive film festival achievements for writing. It would be his first time directing, and they’d be working with a minimal budget, the funds raised through a crowdsourcing site, and with a personal donation of her own salary, but now that she’d read the finished script, her fears had evaporated. The contained psychological thriller, Alice Was Here, was edgy, smart and full of creepy suspense. No happily-ever-after in sight.

Selena held her breath as she turned to look at her boyfriend, Matt Mayson, as he flipped the last page of the copy he was reading. His messy morning hair and sexy dark-rimmed glasses, which he only wore in front of her, had her struggling to stay focused on the movie script. “Well? What do you think?”

Matt’s gorgeous grin, when he looked at her, had her pulse racing even more than usual. “I think you have your breakout movie.”

Deep sigh of relief. “Our breakout movie,” Selena said, tossing both their scripts aside and straddling him on the bed. Work done. Now time for fun. Pressing her hands against his muscular, solid, freshly waxed chest, she leaned forward to kiss him, but his cell ringing on the night table had him turning his head just as her lips approached. Instead of his mouth, she got the stubble on his chin.

“Sorry, it’s Arman,” he said, picking up the phone.

His manager. Right. He still had one.

She, on the other hand, was a free agent after firing her entire management team a year ago. A decision she did not regret.

At all.
