Slowly, Yatta released her. Kennedy snatched her purse from the ground. Her disgust for Chaz was written all over her face, and she made no attempt to hide it as she stormed out of the room.
Chaz knew that to go after her at the moment would be useless. He decided that he’d give her few hours to calm down before going home and trying to rectify the situation.
For hours Kennedy aimlessly drove her black-on-black BMW 645i through the city. The man whom she had vowed to love forever had hurt her in the worst way possible. Kennedy thought that she was reliving a nightmare. She prayed that someone would wake her up.
As the sun crept up over the city, Kennedy made her decision. She knew in heart that she loved him too much to leave him, but she had to make him feel the pain she was feeling. Not by sleeping with another man, because there was no other man she desired. Kennedy wanted only him. Kennedy decided to take away something that he deeply desired, which was to have a baby by her. Chaz wanted nothing more than to have a biological child by Kennedy.
When the abortion clinic opened at nine that morning, Kennedy was there. From the time she walked through the doors her mind was in a thick fog, as if she were detached from herself.
While administering the local anesthesia, the nurse attempted to make small talk with Kennedy. She heard the nurse’s voice but couldn’t decipher her words; they all sounded like blah blah blah to Kennedy.
Kennedy showed no remorse for the child whom only twenty-four hours prior she had looked forward to birthing and showering with love. She lay emotionless as the doctor vacuumed the fetus from her uterus. The pain, hurt, and anger had completely numbed her. Not only had it numbed her, it had smothered her judgment.
Once the procedure was finished, she remained at the clinic for the required one-hour post-abortion observation.
After the hour was up, Kennedy limped out of the clinic. She went to the Duane Reade on the same block and filled the pain prescription that the doctor had given her.
When Kennedy got into her car, she retrieved her Treo from the glove compartment. She had missed more than eighty calls. All of them were from either Chaz or Yatta, although the majority of them were from Chaz. Knowing that Jordan was secure with her aunt Karen, Kennedy powered the phone off and tossed it onto the backseat.
Kennedy drove straight to the Parker Meridien hotel and got a suite. She took two Vicodin and fell into a deep comatose-like sleep. Kennedy slept all day and night, waking only to take the medication. She woke up the next morning, feeling hazy. A long, piping-hot shower cleared her mind a little. After lying around dozing for most of the day, she made the crucial decision to go home that evening.
Exhausted from searching the city for Kennedy, Chaz lay across the couch watching SportsCenter, one hand stuck down in his pants and the other dangling over the edge of the couch holding the remote. He was just about to reach for his phone to try Kennedy’s cell once more when he heard the locks on the front door turning.
