This book took longer than usual to write, which I’d like to blame on the pandemic, but which was really just me not having my shit together. Without the patience and support of the whole Berkley team and especially my editor, Kate Seaver, I would have melted into a puddle and given up many times along the way. They gave me room but never gave up on me, and I’m enormously grateful. We got there in the end, but a lot of the credit is theirs.

I was fortunate enough to have Nancy Dudley Potter, DPT, to help me with the many physical therapy questions I had. She gave extensive and thoughtful answers, and any errors that crept in are entirely mine. If anyone out there breaks a limb or two, they should go look for her. She knows her stuff.
