  53. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

There was enough moonlight coming through the front window to see she was heading for the front door. The clash with Milton had almost wore me out. It took every ounce of the strength I had left for me to catch Yvonne before she opened the door. She screamed, grabbed my hand, and we started tussling from one end of the room to the other. She got distracted when we knocked the Christmas tree over, and I gained more control. I repeatedly clobbered the top of her head with the hammer. She screamed again and stumbled around like a headless chicken. I pinned her against the wall and hit her head much harder this time. It cracked open like a rotten egg. Blood and brains oozed out like lava, and she toppled to the floor. If I hadn’t had such a strong stomach I would have puked.

I was doubly disgusted now because I’d killed them devils before they’d told me where my goddamn money was. I ran back to the bedroom and ransacked every dresser drawer. I looked under the mattress, in the closet, and couldn’t find nothing. While I stood there panting and wiping Yvonne’s blood and brains off my face, I heard footsteps running toward the room. I almost fainted when I whirled around and seen Milton coming at me with that butcher knife. I thought I’d killed that fool. I knocked him to the floor with a sucker punch to the face. Then I headed back to the living room where I had left the hammer, and tripped over Yvonne and fell. When I grabbed the hammer and stood back up, Milton stormed into the room with that knife. He charged at me and plunged the blade into my chest so hard, it felt like I’d been split in two. I was so enraged, the pain didn’t stop me from doing what I done next. I raised the hammer and whacked his head until he fell and stopped moving. Since he’d played possum on the kitchen floor, I wasn’t taking no chances. I hit his head some more until I was sure he was dead this time. Yvonne wasn’t moving neither, but when she started making gurgling noises, I realized she was still alive, too. What kind of superhumans devils was I dealing with? With that knife still in me, I squatted down and hit her head some more until I was sure she was dead, too. I dropped the hammer and wobbled up. Then I gently pulled the blade out of my chest and flung it to the floor.
