“That was before she up and left you to pursue her stardom.” She crosses her arms across her chest. Our server makes her way over to grab our plates and see if we need anything else. Kylie orders another margarita and waits until she leaves before continuing. “She abandoned you. She abandoned us. So of course we’re not close anymore, and I don’t care to help her.”
“Kylie.”
“No, Kai. You know I’m right. You tried to hide it but you were devastated when she left, and no one but me gets to make your life miserable, so fuck her.” You and Po Po.
“Kylie, let me be clear. I love you and I love that you want to protect me but one, I’m a grown-ass man so I don’t need you to defend me and two, I’m not gonna let you disrespect her so let that be your last fuck her.” I appreciate her being overprotective of me. I can always count on her for that even though I can’t count on her for much else. I even understand her anger with Olivia. They haven’t spoken in the last thirteen years either, and I know that really hurt because she really looked up to Olivia. But I don’t care what wrong she’s done, I’m never going to let anyone disrespect her.
Her eyes flash with rage. “You still love her?”
I fold my hands over each other. “I don’t think a single day has gone by that I haven’t loved her, but that’s beside the point. Right now she’s strictly my client, and I need to help her so I’m asking you to have my back and step up for Po Po.” Po Po has a nurse that comes over to check on her every day while I’m at work, but she needs someone to be there in case anything happens overnight, which is why she moved in with me in the first place. “You can stay there rent free which gives you a chance to save up for a new spot. It’s a win-win, Kylie. Come on.”
Kylie has a place with a roommate, but they had a big falling-out and she’s been looking to get out of there ever since. The server drops off her margarita and she sighs heavily before taking a heavy sip. “Fine. But understand, I’m doing this for you and Po Po. Not her.”
“Noted.”
“Promise me one thing.” She holds her pinky out and I grab it with my own.
“What?”
“Don’t let her break your heart again.” I can make that promise. Because I’m not letting her get away from me this time.

A few hours later, after Kylie and I have explained to Po Po what’s going on and I’ve packed a few bags, I’m standing at Olivia’s door waiting for her to answer. I had to bribe Shane’s dumb ass to get him to give me the address where he dropped her off that day.
