I still have no idea what kind of help she needs, so I motion to my Remnant friends, trying to communicate that it’s safe for them to approach. They get the message and scramble over to us, with Kael carrying the still-unconscious Pandora, and Arryn supporting Keeda.

“We need to get her out of here,” I say about Cami, then quickly glance at Pandora. “Both of them.”

“We need to find the breakout Speaker and get us all out of here,” Arryn replies, looking past me at the ensuing word-battle. The Speakers have traveled farther up the laneway and into Sideshow Alley, where those from Lengard are retreating as the new, unknown group chases after them. So far, my concealment command is holding—mostly since Ward is too busy to counteract it.

“Lyss, can you heal Keeda?” Kael asks me, indicating the leg she’s still not putting any weight on.

I’ve never tried to heal anyone before, and I tell him as much. I’m not sure right now is the best time to risk it, when there’s a Speaker battle happening all around us and adrenaline is coursing through me. I’m just as likely to shatter Keeda’s ankle as I am to mend it.

“I’m fine,” Keeda grunts, trying to pull away from Arryn. But when she lowers her foot to the ground, she releases a pained hiss and raises it again.

That gives me an idea, and I point at her foot. “Splint.”

In an instant, her leg is encased within a supportive boot. I might not know how to heal her, but that will at least help.

Keeda sends me a grateful look and Kael nods approvingly, but his expression remains grave as he looks down the alleyway at the battling Speakers. He then turns to the exit in the distance, as if weighing something in his mind.

“Damn it,” he curses under his breath. Pivoting to face Arryn, he says, “You need to take these three back to the yacht.”

Her head jerks toward him. “What?”

“Even with the brace, Keeda can’t walk properly. And Cami looks like she’s about to collapse again,” Kael says. “They’re liabilities now.”

“Excuse me!” says Keeda, indignant.

“Someone has to carry Dora back, since neither of these two will be able to,” Kael goes on, ignoring Keeda. “Out of us three,”—he points to me, Arryn, and himself—“it’s Lyss and my abilities that have the best chance of getting us the breakout. Our only other option is to abort.”

I can almost hear Arryn grinding her teeth, but she doesn’t deny Kael’s claim. I’m not sure if it’s because his voice is full of authority, or if it’s because, for whatever reason, her own Speaking power hasn’t worked since she summoned that first flame wall.

“Fine,” she bites out, reaching to take Pandora. At barely five feet tall, the purple-haired girl isn’t large, but Arryn still staggers a bit under her weight.

“Keed, can you help Cami?” Kael asks.

“I’m ’kay,” Cami slurs, her eyes unfocused, her body swaying against mine.
