HOLLOWAY: That’s all you got. You got love and you got death. Death will find you . . .  it’s up to you to find love. That’s where most people fall down at. Death got room for everybody. Love pick and choose. Now, most people won’t admit that. They tell you they love this one and that one. Most don’t even love their mother. You can see that by the way they treat her. But they’ll tell you anything. But they got to know in their heart. I believe West loved his wife. And Bubba Boy loved his woman. Them’s the only two people I can say found love. The rest of us play at it. That’s cause love cost. Love got a price to it. Everybody don’t want to pay. They put it on credit. Time it come due they got it on credit somewhere else. That’s the way I see the world. That’s what I done learned all these years.
(WOLF enters.)

WOLF: It look like Hong Kong out there. I didn’t know there was that many niggers in Pittsburgh. If you drive by you’d swear didn’t nobody have no home. They all out there on the street.

HOLLOWAY: The people out there looking for opportunity. Whatever’s out there in the way of opportunity, sooner or later it’s got to pass through. You can’t find out what’s out there sitting at home.
(To WOLF:)
Why ain’t you home? Talking about the people. You just come in from out there.

WOLF: I got business to take care of. I can’t take care of it sitting at home.

HOLLOWAY: That’s what I’m trying to tell you. You can’t separate yourself from everybody else. The people out there trying to figure out how they gonna eat. It’s day off on the plantation. They waiting for the white man to call them back to work.

WOLF: I went over there to see Hambone. West got him laid out real nice. He look like he sleeping. You been over, Sterling?

STERLING: I just left from over there.

WOLF: Don’t he look real nice and peaceful? Look like he sleeping.

STERLING: He look like he dead to me. I sat there awhile. I signed the book. Ain’t but three or four people signed it.

WOLF: I signed it. I see Holloway signed it. Risa, you going over?

RISA: No . . .  I don’t want to see him like that.

WOLF: I saw you all down at the rally last night. Wasn’t that something? Everybody was down there. Even the niggers that swear up and down on two stacks of Bibles that they ain’t black . . .  they was down there. Ain’t had but five hundred chairs and three thousand people. Wasn’t no fight or nothing. It was real nice.

STERLING: The police was down there taking people’s pictures.
