“Did you try to get into my phone while I was in the shower?” she asks.

Damn!

Opening her phone was stupid and a mistake. Of course she would know if I touched it. She probably set me up just to see if I would try. One look at her face tells me that lying isn’t an option.

“Yeah, sorry,” I reply. “How did you know?”

She glares at me for a moment before answering.

“The phone has a program that alerts me if anyone tries to open it. Were you checking up on me?” She crams the phone in her back pocket. “Just so you know, I don’t go for the jealous, stalker type of guy. I don’t understand what you hoped to find. Were you afraid I was texting other men or something?”

Texting other men? Oh hell no!

The thought had never occurred to me until she mentioned it.

I feel like I’ve had the breath knocked out of me.

What if she has a boyfriend or even a husband in her real life? Here I’ve been thinking it’s just the two of us involved in this game. A game that I’m enjoying way too much considering the high stakes involved.

If there is another man in her life, I need to know right now.

This puts an entirely different spin on things, and I don’t like it.

Not one bit.

I can’t let her see how unsettled I am by the idea.

“Hell no, I wasn’t checking up on you,” I say with a laugh. “That’s the kind of shit women do. Drives me crazy. I hate it.”

“So what’s your excuse then?”

She is not letting this go about the cell phone. I calmly put the bowl of ice cream down on the counter and turn around to face her.

“Alright, if you must know, I was going to take a dick pic with your phone and set it as your background image.” I grin at her. “It was a joke, that’s all. I thought it would be funny if you opened your phone and there was a photo of my dick staring at you.”

The look on her face is priceless. She’s horrified.

I’m a little shocked myself at the outrageous lie that just came out of my mouth. It’s over the top even for me. I’ve never sent a girl a dick pic in my life.

“Sam!” she says in exasperation. “Are you nuts? Women do not want to receive dick pics from men. Trust me, they just don’t.” She shakes her head. “I can’t believe you are so crude.”

I laugh at her disgusted expression.

“After last night, I thought you might want a photo,” I lie again. “I didn’t expect you to crawl all over my ass and accuse me of being a stalker.”
