- About the Author
I step back to get one last look at her before the ceremony. She’s gorgeous as always, dressed in an off-white linen dress and high heels. Her hair is longer than when we first met and now falls below her shoulders.
“You couldn’t look more beautiful in a fancy wedding dress than you do right now. Being pregnant agrees with you. You’re glowing.”
“You might not think that in a few months.”
“I will, and I’m the one that should be asking you about second thoughts. Are you sure you want to go through with this? Speak now.”
She leans against me. “Don’t even try to get out of marrying me. You’re my Baby Daddy, so don’t make me turn this into a shotgun wedding.” She takes a deep breath. “Let’s go do this.”
I interlace my fingers with hers and we start walking up the long courthouse steps. The loud sound of motorcycles roaring down the street causes me to stop and turn around.
The Steel Infidels.
What are they doing here?
Jesse throws up a hand at me and parks his bike in the first parking spot. Flint pulls in beside him, then Toby. I count the motorcycles as they file in. All of the Steel Infidels are here.
Every last one.
Trish and Kendra are following behind the motorcycles in a car.
“Look who decided to show up after all,” Lila says with a big smile.
I grin down at her. “You know something about this?”
Jesse runs up the steps and grips me by the arm. “What the hell are you doing?” he says. “A brother of mine can’t get married without me. I’m the big brother, otherwise known as the best man.”
“How did you know?” I ask.
I purposely didn’t tell anyone about the ceremony because I was afraid they would try to stop me from marrying Lila. They haven’t warmed up to her like I had hoped they would. She keeps telling me to give them time, but I’ve been worried. The Steel Infidels have been known to hold grudges for a very long time. I want my family to love her as much as I do.
“I called Trish,” Lila says from behind me. “This is a big day. I wanted the Steel Infidels to be here for our wedding and for you. They’re part of my life now too. We’re all in this together.”
“And I’m glad she did,” Flint says, reaching over to shake my hand. “We would have been so pissed if you had gotten hitched without us.”
Trish and Kendra make their way up to us. Trish is carrying a big bouquet of flowers and Kendra is holding a pretty blue box. Trish hands Lila the flowers and takes her arm.
