Tears stream down my face uncontrollably now. I thought the nicest thing ever said to me was why he called me Beagchaithnini sneachta.
“Why are you crying?” he implores.
I rub at my eye which is super irritated. “I’m not. I just slept with my contracts in,” I lie.
Landon chuckles and hands me a tissue from the nightstand.
“What the significance of Eira?” I ask, trying to help distract myself from crying.
“It’s a Welsh word. It means snow.” Not crying was a lost cause.
After I finally settle down, I go to take a shower while Landon goes to fix breakfast. My eyes feel so crusty from crying as well as sleeping in my contacts. I just got a new box with a higher prescription, but I am feeling like I needed to get my eyes checked again for another new prescription.
I slide on my glasses, a pair of leggings, and one of London’s long-sleeved shirts. Wearing it gave me a burst of giddiness, and I allow myself a minute to smell it. Last night and this morning have been the best day of my life. I am hoping for this euphoric feeling to continue. I know it is not fair to allow Landon to develop feelings or different feelings then the ones he has. Not when I am still leaving after the baby is born. But I am selfish and want to live out my short time left in this marriage and life feeling this way. I slip into my room to grab something then head downstairs to Landon.
CHAPTER 19
The Perfect Dress
Landon
Brooke walks into the kitchen wearing my shirt, and I drop an egg. Splat!
“I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the egg is supposed to go into the frying pan,” she teases, smiling all shy and cute-like.
Feeling whiplash from the double shock of her in my shirt and her teasing, I just stand there like an idiot for about a half a minute. Brooke hops onto a bar stool and places something on the counter. Her movement pulls me out of my stupor, and I grin at her.
“Nice shirt!” I make sure to leer dramatically tilting my head as if I were trying to get a better view.
Brooke blushes, and I mentally add another tally mark to my score board. Getting her to blush is my new favorite game. I swoop down and clean up the egg mess. This time, it’s Brooke who peeks over the counter, trying to get a better view. I make sure to tilt my body so my butt is in clear view for her. I peek over my shoulder and catch her eye. Another tally.
I grab a fresh egg and start the process over again. I already have premade hash browns Mrs. Fanny left for us, as she has the day off, warming in the oven. I make sure to toast up some bread and set out a jar of raspberry jam. I set the meal at the bar and hop on a stool next to Brooke. I see no reason to go to the trouble of moving to the breakfast nook.
