Later that evening, when Daisy had gone to bed, Grace came out of the study and announced to Tina, ‘This presentation has to be perfect, but I’ve had enough for one day. Daisy is sound asleep. Feel like watching a movie, Mum?’

Tina glanced up from where she was reading on the couch and stretched. ‘I’d love to another night, but I might just go to bed. I’m in a big tennis match tomorrow. Oh, by the way, have you started that book your friend in Bali gave you? The one about K’tut Tantri?’

‘Yes. I’ve been dipping in whenever I can, although with everything that’s going on I’m not very far in. But it’s a fascinating story, and it’s all true. K’tut is still known as Muriel in what I’ve read, and she hasn’t arrived in Bali yet. She’s just about to arrive in Indonesia, I think. She was a showbusiness writer, but became disillusioned with the Hollywood scene, and in 1932 decided to take a leap of faith and travel to Bali for a completely different life . . . imagine that. Pretty brave for a young woman alone back then.’

‘Almost unheard of, I’d say,’ said Tina.

‘I’m finding it very inspiring,’ Grace said. ‘And, Mum, it put some things in perspective for me. There were so many more obstacles for women back then. At least I have a great work opportunity right at my feet.’

‘Oh wow, I really will have to read it after you, if it makes you feel that way,’ said Tina. ‘Speaking of work, when do you do the presentation and talk to the hotel people again?’

Grace shrugged. ‘I didn’t get a chance to tell you, but they emailed me today saying they want to have the meeting in Singapore, for me to do my pitch to the family’s hotel management group, MGI, as well as the money guys – the bigwigs of the Kamasan family and the CEO of MGI. Talk about layers of power.’

‘Do you present your ideas, figures and strategies to them?’ asked Tina.

‘Yep. I’m explaining my overall grand plan then breaking down the strategy into its various components, beginning with cross-media initiatives. After that comes the big creative detail on how it will integrate into the media. This is the cue for me to then show the cross-media concept mock-ups and finally the fantastic animatics Steve put together from his past work using my creative concepts for the hotel. I think it’s pretty genius. I’m using Coldplay’s “Up and Up” as the background music. Then straight after the video, I present the costs documents, which include Steve and his production costs, my costs and the agency overhead.’ Grace took a breath. ‘This is probably my biggest job, ever.’

Tina shook her head. ‘It sounds amazing. I’m so proud of you, Gracie. So, when are you going?’
