But then he’d got angry. Pissed off that he’d been denied the chance to stop the last bomb. Until the day before, Jax had thought he was simply collecting evidence. He couldn’t stop an attack because he hadn’t known there was an attack to stop. He could possibly have saved them had Clarke told him the truth. But he hadn’t.
Clarke had not trusted him. Yet he’d never lied to Clarke. And he’d done everything he had asked.
He wondered what else Clarke had lied about.

It was suddenly dark. Lights-out. Almost time.
He just had to wait for the guard to finish his patrol. Propped up against his pillow, Jax listened for the echo of footsteps.
The guard soon came and went.
Jax went to his hiding hole and returned to his bed with the iPhone. Blanket pulled over his head to smother the light, he logged into his old Yahoo account. He ignored the 1301 unread messages and got straight to work, thumbs skipping across the glass, text fast filling the screen. He’d decided to contact Sami – not Clarke.

Subject: Information Request
Special Agent Sami,
Can you please go through the suspect list and find out if any of them have betting accounts? I need to get hold of a transaction list for each account, going back at least a year. I also need the same records for Mike Evans, Charlie Haddad and Tim Jenkins.

It was only 10 pm so there was still a chance of getting a reply. He decided he would wait up, all night if he had to. But for that he needed help. He retrieved two green and white pills from his secret safe then got back into his bed, under his blanket. And there he sat, phone in hand, checking his email every ten minutes until 6.57 am.

Done. Files attached. All 27 had at least one betting account.
Reply when you can.
H.
Jax opened the attachment and began looking through the files. A former inmate named Gordon Mailer had one online betting account. Jax flicked straight past his transaction history after he saw that the account had not been used since the day he’d been released. He moved on to the next name.
His reading was abruptly interrupted when the lock on his door snapped open. He threw the phone between his legs and pulled the blanket off his head. He was expecting to find a guard standing in his cell but the door was still closed. He heard a muffled conversation, just outside his cell.
He didn’t have long. He sprang from his sheets, dived onto the floor, yanked the false front off the shelf unit and threw the phone into the hole before slapping the front back on.
