‘Slowly the mind understands that you are not falling for the bait. Slowly the mind gets conditioned that you are one with the moment and its tricks will not work with you. Slowly the mind understands who the true Master is. Beta, it is a slow process and the mind never really stops placing pieces of burning coal but the frequency and intensity and duration all starts dwindling down. You can spend days without the mind playing its tricks. It shall keep trying but the frequency will reduce. You will spend days without a piece of burning coal being placed on your palm. Are you understanding what I am saying, my goat?’
‘Yes, Lord and Master of the coal of mine.’
‘Rascal! Now comes the situation where instead of dropping the coal the individual clutches it tightly and starts fighting with the piece of coal with the fist clutching the hot energy. The person is in agony but instead of letting go, the idiot is clutching on tighter to the burning ember. What is going to ensue? The person is going to get burnt. So when a thought comes about which one should drop immediately, but instead one fights the thought, one is not released off the thought but instead is burnt by the thought, the individual still refuses to let the thought drop away. Discomfort and agony shall ensue. The ember shall stick to your palm that now is formed into a closed fist. So when a thought comes that you do not want, instead of chucking it away, you are fighting it—this only means you are holding on to it tighter. We are not letting go, we are fighting it, by holding on to it. Who does that in real life? We would call that person silly who holds on to fire, screaming in discomfort but still refuses to let go of that piece of burning coal. In reality most people are doing the very same with their thoughts. Fighting them in discomfort rather than releasing the ember with ease. The more you fight the thought, in reality, the more you are gripping it tighter, which only burns you further and further. Let go of that piece of burning firewood and release yourself from the pain, angst and discomfort, but no, we shall hold on and fight it. Nobody can win this battle as you are holding on to the very thing that is causing you pain. You want to let go of what is causing you pain not clutch tightly at it. So when a thought assails your sanity you come back to the moment by dropping that thought, not fighting it. Drop it, drop it, drop it, till the mind gets the message. It will, depending on how seriously you want to be free of that thought. Do not fight it, my child, you are holding on to burning fire. Even a sage will be burnt with fire. There are no exceptions here. It seems that you understand what I am telling you which itself is close to a miracle so we shall now go to the last alternative, fanning the fire, encouraging and nurturing the fire that burns you.’
