VINDEX From the Carvetii – a group akin to the Brigantes, but proud of their independence – Vindex is the son of their chieftain. His mother was not married to his father, so his status is ambiguous. Even so, he was appointed to command a unit of scouts sent to serve alongside the Roman army, during which time he encountered Ferox, and has been by his side almost ever since. V, ES, B, TF
