Flora had been nervous about this part of the day, but putting up the decorations had distracted her. Now as they walked up the steps, Flora had a look of terror on her face.

“It’ll be okay, I promise you,” Mack said.

Isy knocked on the door, and Thomas answered. “Here comes trouble.”

She hugged her grandpa and went in search of Dexter.

Mack walked through the door clasping Flora’s hand. “Hi, Uncle Thomas. This is Flora.”

He shook Flora’s hand and gave her a big smile. “Nice to meet you. Your mum and Aunt Chrissy are in the lounge.”

“Thanks.” They walked down the entrance hall towards the lounge. “You’re doing great,” Mack whispered.

When they walked in, her mum and aunt had huge smiles to welcome them, plus some books that looked suspiciously like photo albums on the coffee table.

“Hello, come in.” Her mum stood, and instead of shaking her hand, she kissed Flora on the cheek.

“I’ve heard so much about you.”

“Flora,” Mack said to her, “this woman who kissed you is my mum, and this lady over here is my aunt Chrissy.”

Chrissy got up and gave her a kiss too. “Pleased to finally meet you.”

“You too, um…” Flora froze, and then Mack pointed to their bags. “Oh yes, we brought you each a jar of your favourite sweets.”

“Oh, isn’t that sweet?” her mum said.

“Thank you,” Chrissy said. “These are very much appreciated.”

Chrissy turned her attentions to Uncle Thomas. “Thomas? Can you put on the kettle for a cup of tea?”

“Yes. Will do.”

Her mum went to pick up a photo album.

“No, no, no photos for—”

Too late. Her mum was sitting beside her with the book open, and then Chrissy told Mack to get out of the seat. This was going to be embarrassing.

“That was not funny,” Mack said with a pout.

They had arrived back at Flora’s flat, and Flora opened the door quickly. The rain was bucketing down, and they had gotten wet running inside.

“Your mum and aunt mean well—you were very sweet.”

Mack rolled her eyes but said, “You did so well today. Meeting new people, new situations. I’m so proud of you.”

“Thanks, it was hard sometimes, but everyone’s been so nice and understanding.” Mack was looking at her with hunger in her eyes. “What?”

“You look so sexy with wet hair.”

Flora laughed. “You do too. Kiss me.” She was glad Dexter was staying with Isy tonight. It meant they could just focus on themselves.

Mack threaded her fingers through Flora’s hair and pulled her in to a kiss. Flora kissed her back passionately. She had been discovering all sorts of things about her sexuality with Mack’s help.
