“I’m thinking it is once again as on that evening. You are once again waiting for something wonderful, for God, and know that He will come. And by chance I come along—”

Klara got to her feet, lighthearted and cheerful. “Well, this time we’re going to wait for it.” She said this with such happiness and simplicity that the doctor had to smile. Then she led him into the other room, to where her child was.

There is nothing in this story that children should not know about. All the same, the children have not heard it. I told it to the darkness alone, to no one else. And children are afraid of the dark and run away from it; and if at some time they have to stay in it, they squeeze their eyes shut and cover their ears. But for them, too, the time will come when the darkness is dear to them. They will receive my story from it, and at that time they will also understand it better.
