For this reason, the two people decided to leave time and go into solitude, far away from the striking of clocks and the noises of the city. And there, in a garden, they built a house. And the house had two entrances, one on its right side and one on its left. The right entrance was the man’s entrance, and everything belonging to him was supposed to come into the house through that. But the left entrance was the woman’s, and what related to her was supposed to enter that way. And so it happened. The first one to get up in the morning went downstairs and opened his or her door. And until late in the night, much came in that way, even though the house was not right on the side of the road.
For those who know how to receive, the landscape enters the house, as well as the light and a wind with fragrant shoulders, and much more besides. But also things from the past, figures, destinies, came in through both entrances, and they all enjoyed the same simple hospitality, with the result that they felt that they had dwelled from all time in the house on the meadow.
