‘Have you asked anyone—’

Dave slammed down his cup and jumped up. ‘You are brilliant!’ He leaned down and gave Kim a smacking kiss before grabbing his jacket from the back of the chair.

‘What did I do?’ she asked, looking at him bemusedly.

‘Jack started some Facebook page. Maybe we’ll just put a call out over that and see what comes back. He told me that he’d already got fifty or so people on there. What are they called … followers? Likers? Followers sound like they’re zombies …’

Kim laughed. ‘Likers is a better word. I’ll see you when you get back. And take the dog with you so I don’t have to put up with him stinking the house out.’

Dave raced into the station and called out to Jack.

‘What’s wrong?’ Jack asked, appearing at the door.

‘Nothing, but I’ve had an idea. We don’t really know anything about that drone other than it’s flying out over land and so on, do we?’

‘That’s right.’ Jack reached over to a file and handed it to Dave. ‘This is all the information I have.’

‘Right, can you put a notice, or whatever it is you do, on that Facebook page and ask if anyone has bought a new drone and, if they have, to contact the station. And then can you get the rules that relate to drones regarding where and how they’re allowed to fly and put that up there too? Can you do that?’

Jack nodded. ‘Yeah, good idea. That’s what this page is all about. Making people aware and asking for help when we need it.’ He turned to the computer and tapped a few keys.

Dave watched as a screen came up declaring that the page was the Barker Police Community page.

‘What do you want to say?’ Jack asked, his fingers hovering over the keys.

Dave shrugged. ‘Something like: Have you bought a new drone lately? If so, please read these conditions of where you are able to fly them. I don’t know. What’s going to get the most attention on Facebook?’

‘How about …’ Jack started to type. Got a new toy? A new love of your life? Does it fly like a bird? Do you know the rules? If you have a new drone, come and see us at the station and we’ll help you understand them.

‘Whatever you reckon,’ Dave said, reading over his shoulder. ‘I know nothing about social media.’

‘I know in Queensland the coppers use Facebook for lots of different things—issuing information on traffic congestion, call outs for witnesses, missing persons. Anything, really. They’ve got nearly a million followers.’

Dave laughed. ‘I don’t think our little Barker page will get to that extent, do you?’

‘Nah, but the reach of that page is incredible.’

‘Any news on Will today?’ Dave asked.

Jack shook his head. ‘Nothing from the footy club. On WhatsApp today, they said some of the fellas were going out to visit him later in the week to see if they could lend a hand with anything.’
