Limpias (spiritual cleansings): “Over the years I have come across many different ways in which people cleanse—cleanse persons, houses, stalls, trucks, things that have come in contact with los malos espiritus. But I don’t want to say that it is as simple as that—as if there are all these unhappy souls floating around us just looking for a vulnerable person to ruin. No, it’s not like that at all. Although I will not say that there aren’t unhappy souls that sometimes do that to people! Many times that terrible state of being comes from within the person himself, a sorrow too great to contain any longer, anxiety over not having work to support one’s family, or misery caused by an unfaithful lover. The purpose then of a cleansing is to restore peace of mind to the individual, to give him a clear head so that he will know what practical things he must do to improve his lot.
