“Works for me—but speaking of priorities, don’t you think we should call Hannah, make sure she’s okay?”
“Later.” He rested his hand on her hip, the possessive weight of it sending a shiver of delight through her. “Steve and Beth will take excellent care of her, and she was excited about spending a few days with them—and all the activities they have planned for her and Noah. They’ll call if any issues arise. And it’s not like we’re going to Tahiti for a three-week tropical honeymoon—unfortunately.”
“But we’ll make the most of our four days in the San Juan Islands. Though I don’t know how that could be any nicer than here.” She glanced toward the late October view framed by the window in the master bedroom of Sea Glass Cottage. Towering spruce and pine trees, blue sky studded with billowy alabaster clouds, and the very top of the white tent where their small group of guests had shared hors d’oeuvres and cake yesterday afternoon after witnessing the exchange of vows on the secluded bluff high above the sea.
What more fitting place to begin their life together than in the cottage that had offered her a haven when she’d needed it most—and opened the door to a wondrous reunion? That had hosted family-style dinners and laughter and love these past four months—and become, for all three of them, the happy house Hannah had christened it during one of her earliest visits.
“I won’t argue with that.” He gently traced the curve of her jaw with his knuckles. “I love this place as much as you do. There’s something special about—”
At the sudden rumble from her stomach, warmth flooded her cheeks. “Sorry. That is so not romantic.”
He grinned. “But it moves food to the top of our priority list. Let’s check out what Tasha left us and save dessert for later.” He winked, swung his feet to the floor, and stood. “Sit tight and I’ll round it up. I think we deserve breakfast in bed today.”
“Why don’t I help you carry it up?”
“Nope. I can handle it.” He pulled on a black T-shirt and padded over to the door. Paused beside the simple but elegant sleeveless white lace sheath she’d worn as they’d exchanged vows. “In case I forgot to tell you yesterday, that’s a stunning dress.”
“You didn’t forget—and I’m glad you liked it.”
“I like the stunning woman who wore it even more.”
Pleasure rippled through her at the unbridled love in his eyes. “You could turn a girl’s head with that kind of talk.”
“I plan to do more than that after breakfast.” His lips rose in a slow smile.
“Promises, promises.”
“Give me five minutes.”
