By the time Marci came back to the podium and adjourned the meeting, the excitement in the room was almost tangible.
“I am so pumped.” Marci joined Christi in the front row as the noise level in the hall grew and attendees began to mingle or depart. “This is going to be phenomenal! I can feel it.”
“There’s a ton of enthusiasm, that’s for sure. Did you ever manage to connect with Rose Fitzgerald about opening up her estate to tours?”
Marci made a face. “Just an hour before this meeting. No go on the tours.”
“That’s a shame.”
“I know—but she did promise to make a generous contribution to help offset the cost of the event. I’m still bummed, though. A unique opportunity to see a historic home usually closed to the public would have been a coup. I’ll let the committee know Tuesday night at our meeting that she declined.”
“Speaking of the meeting—would you mind if I bring Jack’s daughter?” She’d have to clear that with him, but it was doubtful he’d object. Especially in light of his participation in the festival.
“Not at all. She was quiet as a mouse today.” Marci peered through the crowd toward the father-daughter duo. “I do need a bio and headshot from Jack ASAP for my publicity campaign. I want to launch the festival Facebook page Tuesday with teasers and speaker bios to spark interest. Could you catch him before he leaves and ask him to send those to me? I have to grab Reverend Baker and confirm the hall for a few more meeting dates.”
“Sure. But I’ll have to move fast.” She rose on tiptoe to see over the crowd. “I think he’s about to escape.”
“Have at it. Email is fine for the info.” Marci sped off toward the minister.
Christi snatched her purse from the chair and wove through the crowd, keeping Jack in sight as she paused to respond to greetings, thanks, and questions.
Fortunately, Charley had waylaid him near the door.
As she approached, all three of them looked her direction.
“Wonderful meeting, Christi.” Charley touched the brim of his Ducks cap in salute. “I predict this event will be a great success.”
“From your mouth to God’s ears.”
“Don’t rule that out.” His eyes began to twinkle. “Now I’m off to paint. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful Sunday.” He winked at Hannah and strolled toward the exit.
Jack pulled out his keys, suggesting he was ready to leave too.
Shoot. He must not be in the mood to chitchat—or linger.
“I don’t want to detain you, but I have a message from Marci.” She passed it on, along with the woman’s email address, then spoke to Hannah. “How are you today, sweetie?”
