We obey, the door swinging shut behind us. Aunt Elaine ushers us into the library, where Nora paces before the fire. Relief fills her face when she sees me, and she wraps me in a hug.
“You’re okay,” she breathes. “I had a terrible vision of the costume shop. The costumes—”
“Came to life.” I hold up my injured arm. “Yeah, I know.”
Nora’s eyes widen and she guides me onto the couch. Rose hands Max to Colin and joins us, her medical supplies in hand. She unwraps my arm, revealing a shallow wound that’s mostly stopped bleeding, though it stings a lot.
“What happened?” Nora demands when Colin joins us by the fire.
He recounts the attack while Rose cleans and bandages my arm, his voice faltering when he mentions what the wraith said about him being the reason they were discovered.
“She wouldn’t tell us how,” I say as Rose ties off the bandage, then shifts over to work on the scratches on Colin’s collarbone.
“I’m sorry,” Colin says quietly. “Anna got hurt because of me.”
His words are a gut punch. I’m pretty sure that he got hurt because of me. What if the journal locking down when I tried to draw in it is what stopped him from being able to summon his Saint Knives?
Aunt Elaine folds her arms. “No, you should have been untraceable with your warding.”
The library door opens, and Uncle Roy enters. He’s nearly soaked through, but a moment later the water goes up in steam as he uses his pyrokinesis. “Perimeter’s clear,” he says, pushing his hair out of his face. “No guests saw anything, and I’ve…seen to the raven.”
Max curls tighter in Colin’s arms, burying his face into the crook of his elbow. Rose sticks a big Band-Aid over Colin’s collarbone and starts cleaning up her supplies. There are tears in her eyes, and I know she can feel Max’s pain as if it’s her own.
Uncle Roy hovers awkwardly in the doorway. He clearly has something else to say, and Nora gives him an expectant look. “It’s nothing. Only, well, you know how hard Jabberwockies are to kill. With their strength, a member of the Ravenguard could wear one down enough to do it, not that they would, and other than that…” He shrugs one massive shoulder. “Anything left on the list isn’t something I want to face.”
Kara gives me a look that clearly says, You haven’t told them yet? And I glance at Colin. We’re withholding important information from the adults that could tie all of this together. He gives me a nod.
“Colin had a vision of a man named Fin Varra when he fainted from the wraith poison,” I say. “And at the costume shop, I found a Radharc that showed me a vision of him.”
