Anna springs up, crossing to a long table beside a bookcase and returning with the supplies. I do my best to describe the symbol from the man’s cloak in my vision, and she sketches it. It’s triangular in shape, formed from three prongs that curve into spirals on the end, giving the impression of constant motion. She adds tiny vines circling around each limb.
“A Triskelion?” she asks.
“You know what it is?”
She nods. “It’s a super common Irish symbol, though I’ve never seen it with the vines. It can mean a lot of different things.”
“Can you draw something else for me?” I ask. She listens as I describe the man from my vision. The drawing takes longer than the Triskelion, but by the time she’s done, an angular-faced man with a sharp jawline, pointed nose, and large eyes stares up at us, his long hair done in a braid down his neck.
“Who is he?” she asks.
“I don’t know. He was wearing a cloak with the symbol.” I look around at the library’s many books. “Maybe we can do some research tomorrow? See if we can find him or the symbol?”
Anna blanches in response. “Sure, why not. What’s another mystery on the list? We can put it right between ‘discover evil creature hunting Ravens’ and ‘where’s Liam?’ ”
I wince at the mention of Liam, and Anna winces along with me. “Sorry,” she says. “I’m on edge. I feel like a leaf in a windstorm.”
“Try being a leaf in a windstorm who didn’t know windstorms existed three days ago,” I mutter sleepily.
She smiles faintly. “You’re right. I know this hasn’t been easy.”
Nothing in my life has been for the last few months. This just feels par for the course.
As Anna stands to leave, I finally force out the question I’ve been holding on to. “Visions…they’re not normal for a Raven?”
Anna worries her hands in her lap. “No, they’re not. It could just be the wraith toxin impacting you differently, though. But until we know, don’t tell anyone? If Nora thinks something is wrong, she’ll lock us down even more.”
I nod in agreement. Nora’s just looking for a reason to wrap us in padded suits and hide us in a locked room. What’s another inexplicable phenomenon?
“I won’t,” I tell her.
Anna tries for a reassuring smile and fails as miserably as ever. “Max is going to look after you. Let him or the house know if you need anything.”
Once she’s gone, I snuggle into the blankets, my exhaustion creeping around me from all sides. I can still hear the echoes of the battle, smell the blood on the air, and no matter how I try, I can’t get it out of my head.
It haunts me into my dreams.
