When I get to the lunch table, Bing is there, deep in conversation with Jane. I hang off to the side, trying to look unobtrusive. After a few minutes they hug, and he gets up to leave.

“Hello, Lizzie.” He nods as he passes. I sit down with my tray in the seat he just vacated.

“So…?”

“Oh, Lizzie!” Jane sighs dramatically. “He wants to get back together! He says he doesn’t care about next year! Or the future. We can be together now. So why torture ourselves?”

“That’s so great, Jane.” I smile at her sideways. “Have you guys been texting much?”

She flushes and grins. “Well, I had to say thanks, for sending over that video. He said you’re welcome, and he hoped I’d catch up on my sketches, ’cause he looks forward to seeing them … and we just started chatting like we used to, and I didn’t want to get my hopes up, so I didn’t say anything, I hope you don’t mind—”

“Of course I don’t mind! I’m so happy for you.”

“He said he didn’t want to have any regrets.” She gives me a glance. “Like Darcy.”

“What about Darcy?”

“Oh, you know,” she says, being coy. “She’d met this really great girl, but she’d blown it somehow, and she couldn’t get the girl out of her mind.”

“Huh.” I will myself not to blush. Jane snickers, so clearly it isn’t working.

“He said Darcy told him she was wrong.”

My head snaps towards her. “She did?”

“Yup. Seems she felt bad that anything she’d said had encouraged him to break up with me. That she didn’t know anything about relationships. And that he was clearly miserable without me.”

“That part sounds right. You could tell he wasn’t over you from a mile away.”

“It’s all working out! Bing and I are back together, and Lydia has been avenged big time. Now we just need to find you a nice girl to settle down with…”

“Let’s stick to gloating over Wickham’s misfortune for the moment,” I say, taking out my phone. “Speaking of, let’s watch this again. It gets better every time!”

As we watch (“A is for aardvark! I got mad skills in the skate park!”), I wonder again who could have posted this. The school thinks it was Lydia but I know for a fact it wasn’t. None of Wickham’s friends would have done it. So who did?

Then I notice the wallpaper behind White Jay-Z in the video. I’ve seen that design before. I know where this video was filmed.

I shoot to my feet.

“I’ve got to … run an errand. Be right back.”

I find Darcy in the library, shelving books. OK, I might have known she’s been volunteering half her lunch period in the library. I might have been paying attention to her schedule.

When she sees me skidding into the library, she smiles, before pulling her face back to neutral.

“Lizzie,” she says. “Hi.”

“Hi.” I stand there dumb for a moment. What is it about this girl that makes me so incapable of rational speech?
