“Usted!” she exclaimed before rushing the rest of the way over. She threw her arms around the man, all but smashing his face into her breasts as she squeezed him. “Ha pasado demasiado tiempo desde la última vez que vi tu cara!”
Apparently, they knew each other.
“Adella, cómo estás?”
And… apparently, his savior in shining Armani knew Spanish.
Micah was not impressed or turned on in the slightest. The guy was bilingual. So what? The gravel in his voice as his mouth wrapped around each accented word didn’t cause his dick to twitch in his too-tight pants. No way, José.
See, he could speak Spanish too.
Sort of.
Enough that he caught the gist of what they were saying to each other as the two slipped into a conversation in front of him. The woman – Adella – was apparently quite upset that she hadn’t seen the man in so long. She seemed happy enough to see him now, however.
She had finally released the guy from her death grip when her eyes drifted to meet Micah’s. She appeared startled to realize the man she was accosting had company. Micah offered her a brief, aborted wave, and a pleased grin slowly formed on her face. “And who is this?” she asked, abruptly switching to English.
“I’m-”
Before Micah could answer, however, she turned to the man sitting beside him and launched into another spiel – speaking Spanish once more. He was mortified to catch the words “encantador” (charming) and “guapo” (handsome) as she gestured emphatically at him.
Micah wasn’t sure if he was relieved or annoyed when the man shifted tactically and blocked him from her sight with his body. “Enough, Adella. Can’t you see you’re scaring him?”
Scaring him? Okay, he was definitely annoyed.
“Please, if you haven’t frightened him off by now, I don’t have a chance in el infierno of doing so.” She blatantly peered around the man’s shoulder. “I’m Adella, by the way, it’s nice to meet you, precioso.”
Had she just called him “precious”?
“Adella,” the man warned before Micah could manage a response, something menacing in his voice that hadn’t been there before.
The woman pursed her lips at the tone, but it must have done the trick because she sighed before taking a step backward. “I see taking on more work hasn’t made you any more bearable over the past few months,” she snapped before turning her attention back to Micah, her expression and tone softening as she pulled out a small notepad from the pocket of her apron. “What can I get you to drink, precioso?”
The man beside him twitched.
Micah couldn’t help but be amused by the woman’s antics. Before he could open his mouth to answer her, however, his abductor was speaking. “He’ll have a glass of milk – whole if you have it.”
Micah blinked in disbelief.
Milk? What was he, a kindergartener?
He forced himself to hold his tongue as the man followed up that proclamation by ordering his own drink – whiskey on ice, since, you know, he was an adult. Unlike what he obviously thought of Micah.
