He picked up a dumbbell, struck Hicks on the back of the head, then choked him with it while he lay bleeding on the floor.

You’re thinking it was a stupid idea for him to go for those drinks. You were thinking it before he was killed.

The world now, we’re afraid of hitchhikers and hitchhikers are afraid to get lifts.

It got worse for Hicks after he died.

The driver stood over the dead body and got excited. He dissected the young boy, who was only four days away from his nineteenth birthday, and buried him in the back garden. A few weeks later, the body was unearthed, the flesh dissolved in acid, and the bones smashed into tiny pieces with a sledgehammer. The fragments were scattered around the woods behind the driver’s house.

He’d kill another sixteen boys before being caught.

This was Jeffrey Dahmer’s first kill. His first. This is where it started. It got so much worse.

That’s why everybody gets caught.

Some start by setting fire to insects with the sun and a magnifying glass. It may escalate to slicing the throat of a cat. Perhaps they pick up a hooker and drown her in a river.

Grabbing a hitchhiker from the side of the road and disposing of them as Dahmer did is a great way to never get caught. But if your starting point is ejaculating on a naked dead body, any escalation from that point is going to open you up for capture.

Here’s some advice: don’t chop off a victim’s head. Don’t hollow out their skull and keep it as a bowl that you use to store your red liquorice in on the coffee table. Don’t be an idiot.

It’s almost the end. Here is our beginning.

The People of Choice.

1 – Student.

Take two young men, nearing their twenties. Studying psychology. Thinking they know what they want to do with their lives. One of them wants a degree. The other wants to kill his roommate who wants a degree. He wants something larger.

An impact, right?

They go out and drink. Alcohol plays such a strong role in that first kill. By the time you get to the second one, you realise it never requires courage. You just need to not care.

There’s a lot to discuss. Milgram and Elliot and Asch. Ego and personality. Eysenck and Cattell. A drunken, cerebral odyssey that ended back in the dorm room. More wine. A failed homosexual encounter and a late-night bath.

The morning brought hysteria from the room as the man who wanted a degree was found dead in the bathtub by the man who wanted to kill a man who wanted a degree. It looked like suicide.

It wasn’t.

And it did not escalate for another 224 victims. (Listed).

It had to build at some point.

And, now, it doesn’t matter if we are caught or somebody else takes the blame.

It is over.

The People of Choice have won.
