- About the Author
I nodded. “In the years after the Eosoreans first came through, we learned a lot about magic. Human magical knowledge was nothing like it is now. Back then, it was mostly basic cantrips; oracles, sleight of hand, low levels of personal cultivation affecting health and fitness but little else. And even then, we didn’t really believe in it. Once the portal opened and the denizens of Eosor came through, human magic became much stronger. Especially when the world powers tried to weaponize it.”
“The history of Eosor is very similar,” Kyrine said. “Cultivators learned how to harness their chi and convert it into mana. And when they expended mana, the world around them slowly absorbed it. Then, when the dungeons were born, the power increase became exponential. It is this same increase which the residents of the mansion wish to have occur on Earth. They believe an incredible increase of power among Earth’s cultivators could prevent a cataclysmic event, the likes of which destroyed my homeworld.”
“Do you know what it is, the cataclysmic event?” I asked.
“I see the agents didn’t tell you. Yes, I know what they fear. It appears they fear that Earth will encounter the Fateweaver. The same entity to which Eosor fell.”
“The Fateweaver. . . ”
I had heard the legend of the Fateweaver, the terrifying inter-dimensional being who had caused the opening of the portal and the destruction of Eosor, but I’d never thought that we on Earth would be at risk from him.
“If that’s truly what’s going to happen, then what we’re doing here is really important,” I said. “The highest cultivation levels registered on Earth are around Level 7. That’s just public data, though. Information leaks suggest that the cultivators in government programs have possibly reached as high as a Level 10.”
Kyrine laughed mirthlessly. “Level 10? Then I am not surprised that your government agencies are eager to boost cultivation levels in this world. If dungeons like me had not recently awoken on Earth, I am afraid you would have a serious problem. In fact, you may not have enough time as it is.”
“How so?”
“Those on Eosor who fought against the Fateweaver were over Level 100. And even they could not stop him.”
“Level 100??” I nearly yelled. “Shit! And this Fateweaver character was able to defeat them?”
“They were destroyed by him. Every single one of them.”
“Well, then we have to do everything we can to bring about an increase in cultivation level worldwide,” I said, “I had no idea so much was at stake when I got involved. Well, Fateweaver or not, I’m looking forward to working with you. I’ve worked as a crafter of magical runes and even designed some of my own magitech enhancements. I think I could use some of that expertise to help make the dungeon far more powerful.”
