I considered asking Kyrine these questions but thought otherwise; she was clearly growing impatient and she’d already allowed me to experience an additional vision.

“I suppose I’d prefer to fly. Most likely as a dragon.”

It sounded cliche, but what guy wouldn’t want to become a dragon?

“You need to answer the question in the form it was given,” Kyrine said.

“Right.” I paused to recall the question’s form so I could construct a correct answer. “If I were a creature, I would soar above the heavens, clothed in scales.”

“How did I do?” I asked.

“You think the interview is over?” She laughed. It sounded far less menacing now that she was no longer trying to explain why she’d tried to kill me.

I frowned. “It’s not?”

“It has only just begun.”

“Oh.”

“Is that a problem?” she asked.

“Not at all,” I replied. “I’m having fun. I’m almost forgetting that you tried to kill me.”

Kyrine chuckled. “Oh, I am sure you will forget in no time. Shall we proceed?”

“I’m ready when you are.”

“If you open your doors for visitors,” she continued, “do you provide them with a memorable experience so they can leave and encourage others to enter your realm? Or do you entertain them before killing them?”

“Those questions seem a little one-sided. I can only really choose to give them a memorable experience. I’m not a murderer.”

She gave me an odd look, as if she didn’t quite understand where I was coming from. “Of course, I sometimes forget that this interview was designed for the inhabitants of Eosor. A bloodthirsty group, of that there is no doubt. More so than your kind here on earth.”

I nodded. “I’ve heard the stories.”

The ancestors of the Outworlders who now inhabited Earth might have had vastly superior knowledge, but they weren’t exactly known for peaceful cohabitation with their neighbors. In fact, murder, pillage, and violent death were generally considered pretty acceptable, and sometimes even admirable.

Kyrine bit her lip and stared into the distance, lost in thought. “Perhaps I should rephrase the question? I have to ensure the way I phrase it is still in keeping with the relevant requirements. Let me consider. . .” She leaned back on her arms. As her back arched a little, my attention was again drawn to her breasts and the jewels which covered them.
