Clarence had no idea who this hobo was, but he had his doubts that this plan would work at all. The guy didn’t use karate, and he had taken several shots to the chest. Something wasn’t normal about him. Clarence had no idea what was up with the guy, but he knew he wasn’t going to make it out of this unscathed.

As soon as he crossed the street and reached the front door, Clarence turned back. He was nervous and just wanted one of them to get impatient and take over the job for him. Surely all one had to do to draw the hobo out was cause some trouble here, right? Why send the weakest of them to be the bait?

But, when Clarence did turn around, he saw the he had no support waiting for him in the alley. At first glance, he thought they had abandoned him and left for the warehouse to set up.

“Guys?!” Clarence yelled, terrified to be on his own.

Then, Clarence looked into the dark corners of the alley. He saw a foot sticking out from behind a trashcan, accompanied by a stream of blood now flowing into the gutter. Clarence stepped into the street for a closer look, then noticed the bodies, as well as body parts, of his fellow gang members. Some were just dead while others had exploded all over the walls of the alley.

“GUYS!?!” Clarence screamed. His gaze danced radically up and down the street and all around him until he saw the hobo, standing just inside the shadows of the alley. Clarence was terrified and had no idea what to do when Clarke took a few steps towards him.

“You again?” Clarke asked. “Attacking the same place twice in one day? You’re not very smart.”

“Y-y-you… I!” Clarence barely uttered. His legs were shaking so hard that he fell to his knees, unable to support his weight at all.

Clarke didn’t see the need to talk or ask questions. He simply stepped out of the alley and strode towards the scrawny gangster.

“Wai-wait!” Clarence said, pushing himself back away from the encroaching bum. “We weren’t here to attack the hospital! I swear!”

“I don’t care,” Clarke said, nearing his target.

“No, no, no, no, no!” Clarence said, finally finding the strength to use his legs. He turned himself around and rand down the sidewalk as fast as he could. He didn’t dare look back or see if Clarke was following him or not. He didn’t even care about following the plan at first. His immediate concern was just getting away. It wasn’t until he had run three city blocks that he had a realization.

“The warehouse!” he remembered. The others were there ready to jump the hobo as soon as he was inside. What’s more, other gang members were there to protect him, or at least provide cover! They would kick the crap out of him for getting the others killed, but getting beaten up was a far better alternative to dying.
