‘Let me make something clear to you, Alex. I’m a careful man. I take steps, usually two or three, before they’re needed. Sykes, he vouched for you. To me, it seemed a bit odd that you would want to move hundreds of miles from your home to work here.’
‘I needed the job and…’
‘Don’t interrupt me.’ Wyatt’s tone seethed with anger. ‘Now, I don’t care whether you’re sucking his cock or whether he just took pity on you. What I care about is my business. And right now, this man, he is an unknown entity. So, I’ll give you one chance to tell him to get the fuck out of town, otherwise I will take steps. Is that understood?’
‘Yes, boss.’
‘And, Alex…you’re on thin ice. Do you understand? And believe me, if that ice breaks, you will wish that the only thing beneath it was freezing water.’ Wyatt stared deep into her eyes, hammering the message home. He then sat back, took a swig of beer, and turned from her. ‘Get back to work.’
Alex nodded nervously and hurried away. Wyatt smiled, knowing his threat had hit the mark. Every cautious bone in his body was urging him to just kill her and Cooper, but while the police were in his pocket, it would cost a lot to get them to turn away from two dead bodies.
He’d given her a chance.
A warning.
Alex seemed like a smart girl, so he was sure she’d take it.
Sykes slammed his drink down as Alex returned to the bar and stormed to the door, refusing to look back at Wyatt who watched with intent.
Wyatt sighed.
Sykes was obviously going to find Cooper.
Another flagrant disregard for his orders.
Sipping his beer, Wyatt made a mental note to put Sykes back in his place when he returned. But watching the video of Cooper assault his men, Wyatt was more than happy for Sykes to let the man know who was in charge.
Dillon belonged to the Death Riders.
Dillon and every person in it.

It was a surprisingly pleasant walk back through town. Although not warm enough to remove his jacket, Sam had enjoyed the cool breeze that flittered through the night sky. The entire town was empty, beyond the faint echo of The Pit, which hung over the town like a spectre. The residents of the town were clearly living in fear of the Death Riders, sacrificing any hope of a night life due to the bikers. Sam was under no illusion that they were dangerous.
With the DEA watching them like a hawk, Sam connected the dots as to what the Riders truly were.
Drug dealers.
With his war on organised crime over, Sam put his nobility to the side.
He wasn’t here to bring them down.
He was here to help Alex get her family back.
