  37. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  38. What’s next onyour reading list?

Leigh studied the nondescript building, not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed that his unit was dark. What had she expected? She didn’t even know why she’d come here.

Mason Lloyd had seen the video.

Too bad it hides your tattoo.

Even if he hadn’t said that, she would have known from the way he’d looked at her—aroused and taunting. He’d wielded his words like a whip, delivering a quick sting, and she knew he got off on that.

Tears slid down her cheeks, and she brushed them away. She should be past this now. Two long years later, she should be numb to this crap. Usually, she was. But then something would leap out of nowhere and slap her in the face.

Better watch that sweet little ass of yours. Leigh’s stomach filled with acid as she pictured that leering, revolting grin.

A tap on the window made her jump.

Brandon peered down at her. She felt a flood of relief, quickly followed by embarrassment. She popped the locks and pushed open the door.

“You lost?” he asked with a wry smile.

“No. I was looking for you, actually.”

He seemed amused. “You looked up my address?”

“Yep.” She forced a smile. “I’m nosy.”

He pulled the door open wider and she hesitated a moment before getting out. It was the only move that made sense. She couldn’t very well tell him she’d come over here just to stare at his building.

Looking him over, Leigh realized she hadn’t thought this through. Here she was in jeans and a faded sweater with her unwashed hair in a messy bun. He was in jeans, too, but his clean-shaven face and hint of cologne told her he was on his way out for the night.

Good lord, did he have a date? Her cheeks flushed at the prospect, and she scrambled for something to say.

A smile spread over his face as he gazed down at her. “You had dinner?”

“Yes. What about you? Are you on your way somewhere or—”

“I’m headed out for a drink. Want to come?”

She gazed up at him, weighing his words. He looked all cleaned up, and he was going out for a drink. By himself. Which probably meant he’d been planning to meet up with someone or pick someone up.

He leaned closer. “It’s not a hard question,” he whispered.

“Yes. I’d love to have a drink with you.”

“Good.” He smiled, once again looking amused by the situation, which she had to admit was strange—her showing up at his place out of the blue.

He nodded at her car. “That your computer? You probably want to put it in the trunk.”

“Oh. Right.”
