Byron had a sick, sinking feeling in her stomach. “Who has gone, Henri?”

“Sera and Miss Honey. Sera compelled me to let them have an hour’s head start.”

“My God,” Byron said in disbelief. The two women she loved most in the world were out on their own at the worst possible time. “Find out where they are,” Byron roared.

Byron’s mobile rang. It was Bhal. After a brief conversation, she said to Alexis, “Let’s go. One day here and my sister causes mayhem.”

Chapter Ten

Amelia relaxed and enjoyed the dancing. Sera had an infectious personality. She seemed to enjoy every second of life and not worry about the next day. Amelia laughed when Sera started to dance provocatively with one of the club dancers, dressed as a demon.

The dance floor filled up even more, and Amelia started to feel a little crowded. People were starting to push and shove. Sera stopped dancing as if she had just heard something, and Amelia felt someone next to her grab her wrist.

She didn’t even get the chance to shout for help before Sera pushed him off her, and he flew a few feet from just one little push.

Sera took her hand, and said, “We have to go, right now.”

“Sera, what’s going on?”

“Remember we talked about all those foes my family had? They’re after us,” Sera told her.

“I had no idea the banking business was so dangerous,” Amelia said.

Sera sighed loudly. “You have no idea.”

When they got out of the throng on the dance floor, Amelia noticed two people in dark suits talking to Troy at the VIP area, then point over to them.

“Amelia, we have to move now. We’ll head out of the club through the back. No matter what happens, don’t look back, and keep holding my hand, okay?”

Now Amelia was worried. If the easy-going, life of the party Sera Debrek was concerned, then it was time to panic.

Sera guided her quickly to the back of the club and through double doors marked Private. They walked into what looked like a staff kitchen, with staff members looking perplexed. One man jumped in front of Sera and said, “You can’t be in here. You have to leave now.”

Sera looked him right in the eye and said, “You’re going to let us by, and go about your business.”

“I’m going to let you by, and go about my business,” the man repeated back and stepped out of their way.

“How did you—?”

“Come on, we have to move,” Sera said.

How could this be happening? Sera got that person to move with just her words. This was just one more strange thing about Byron’s family.

They burst through the back door and found themselves in a poorly illuminated back alley.

“Okay, let’s go and get a cab. They are probably waiting with the Ferrari,” Sera said.

Amelia stopped dead, and pulled her hand from Sera’s. “Stop, just stop, Sera. What is going on here?”
