Tearing herself from the view, she turned and nodded.
“Amazing. I still kill every plant I look at.” Jenn ripped a bunch of fresh tulips from a chunky vase on the counter, crammed them into the garbage, and replaced them with Tessa’s bouquet. “So much better.”
Tossing thirty dollars worth of tulips and replacing them with Tessa’s homegrown gift was Jennifer Sweet in a nutshell. With a smile, Tessa returned to the windows. “I can’t believe this view. Quite a step up from our college housing. All that’s missing is your Bull Durham poster.”
“Inside my closet door.” Jenn giggled. “I’ve kissed that thing so many times the CSI. guys could probably get a DNA sample from Kevin Costner’s lips. When he was young, he was super hot.”
A few hours later, so stuffed with Chinese food she had to unbutton her jeans, Tessa snagged the cellophane-wrapped whoopie pie Jenn tossed from the kitchen. But for the spanking new couches, they might have been back in their dorm room senior year.
“I’m so glad you finally got your skinny butt here to see me.” Jenn dove into a pile of pillows on the floor and scooped another handful of jellybeans. “Enough of my boring life. Tell me about you. Mysterious Amish farmers? Dashing young doctors? Spill.”
“I think I’m going crazy.” She sank into the sofa and licked cream from her fingertips. “Doctors and farmers and me. Oh my.”
“What’s up with those beards with no mustaches?”
She spluttered a laugh, and a white glob flew onto her lap. She swiped it with a take-out napkin. “I wish I knew. Jonas doesn’t have one—a beard—or a mustache for that matter. I don’t know why. I can’t muster the courage to ask him anything.”
“And the good doctor? Richard?” Jenn rolled the “r” for about five seconds.
“The good doctor is also clean-shaven. Though he’s definitely a five o’clock shadow guy.”
“Sexy.” Swinging around, Jenn dropped her elbows onto the coffee table and smirked. “The question is…is he good?”
Hashing over Jenn’s relationships was second nature. Half the time they should have been studying, they obsessed over Jenn’s boyfriends instead. Now that the sport sandal was firmly on the other foot, she flushed to her eyeballs. “Quite good from what I can tell. I mean, he’s kind of the perfect guy. He’s brilliant and witty, and he’s so incredibly charming. He swept me off my feet like he had a broom.”
“And he adores you?”
